(1)Develop and implementing “best practices” for our interactions as law enforcement with those persons battling mental illness; and (2) Educating and mentoring our youth about those matters affecting them. I have developed and put into effect training programs for both our full time and reserve deputies to educate them on how to engage with those persons in our Precinct 2 community who suffer from mental illness. In an effort to promote a safe, drug and crime-free community, we are continuously working with local schools and community programs. We frequently visit the schools and engage our students in discussions about safety at home, at school and at other places in the community.
